You may have heard the term spiritual authority before, but you may be asking yourself what’s the difference between prayer and using spiritual authority in Jesus name?

Prayer asks God for something specific in Jesus name. (This awaits an answer).

Using spiritual authority is commanding in Jesus name (This command means it happens now!)

Do you realize what type of authority you have been given by our Lord Jesus Christ as believers?

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”

(Matthew 28:18)

Jesus told the disciples in Matthew 10:8 “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”

Now before you say, “Well, Jesus was addressing his disciples in that verse,” check out the next verse:

Jesus tells us: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” (John 14:12)

We see that Jesus is referring to belief (faith) and works, as they walk hand and hand. When you use this spiritual authority in Jesus you are putting belief and works into practice, and this great authority that Jesus gave the disciples can be wielded by us as believers as well.

(For further reference about faith and works in conjunction, please see James 2:14-26)

We see we have the authority in Jesus name to:

  1. Heal the Sick, Cleanse the Lepers
  2. Raise the Dead
  3. Cast out Devils (Demons)

We have to remember that Jesus did more than just heal the sick, raise the dead and cast out devils.

Jesus also:

  • Fed the 5,000 men and their families (Matthew 14:16-21), (Mark 6:35-44), (Luke 9:12-17), (John 6:5-14)
  • Fed 4,000 men and their families (Matthew 15:29-39), Mark 8:1-10)
  • Changed water into wine (John 2:1-11)
  • Jesus also calmed the storm demonstrating his authority over creation (Matthew 8:23-27, Mark 4:35-41, Luke 8:22-25)
  • Walked on the water (Matthew 14:22-33, Mark 6:45-52, John 6:16-21)
  • Told Peter to catch a fish and that the first fish he would catch would have enough money in its mouth to pay the taxes. (Matthew 17:24-27)
  • Jesus raised the widow’s son from the dead in Luke 7:13-15, Jarius daughter from Matthew (; 25, and raised Lazarus from the dead in John 11:43-44.

So getting right into it, how can you use this spiritual authority in Jesus with daily practical applications? Well, let’s get right into some everyday examples.

(It’s important to note that you should have the leading of the Holy Spirit when it comes to using spiritual authority in Jesus.)

Example 1: You have observed that a very bad storm is heading your way.

You can rebuke the storm the same way that Jesus did in Luke 8:24. “The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.”

Remember what Jesus says in Mark 11:23 “Truly, I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.”

You: Pointing at the storm, In the name of Jesus, storm you are rebuked break up and are no more. You could also say: Storm, you are to go around my city in the name of Jesus.

Example 2: Your family member is extremely ill from a sickness that is unknown.

When Jesus ministered healing to a deaf person, He spoke, “Come out of him thou deaf and dumb spirit.” Mark 9:25.  Jesus called deafness a spirit.

You: In the mighty name of Jesus, you, spirit of sickness are rebuked from (person’s name) in Jesus name.

(Note: You may do this with any type of sickness.)

Example 3: You are at a church planned event, and you have invited around 100 people, but 500 people showed up and there is no way to feed all of the people. Remembering what Jesus did with the five loaves of bread and two fish looking up towards heaven, he blessed them from Luke 9:16.

You: lift up the food you have to the Lord and ask out loud that the Lord to multiply your food in Jesus name bringing him glory for all who are going to eat at this gathering.

Example 4: You sit down to dinner with your family, and someone in your family is extremely disruptive and seeming out of character.

(You can say this quietly, but out loud) You: Any demonic spirits that are disrupting this family meal, you are rebuked in Jesus name.

Example 5: You are at work and a fellow employee or a regular customer is always swearing and blaspheming the Lord’s name. This could be a neighbor as well.

You: Saying this quietly, but out loud, you say. The demonic spirit that is in that man/woman speaking such profane language and blaspheming my Lord, you are rebuked in Jesus name. You will not be able to speak such blasphemies around me in Jesus name.

Example 6: You feel a sudden depression come over you and you don’t know why.

You: Any spirit of depression coming against me, you are rebuked in Jesus name.

Example 7: You may feel distracted by something you know you should be doing.

It’s important to understand that our enemy the devil seeks to devour believers and Satan and his demons “scheme” against Christians. (1 Peter 5:8, Ephesians 6:11)

You: Any distracting spirit coming against me, you are rebuked in Jesus name.

(Helpful Hint: You should play Christian music, even on low volume as this tends to drive away any attacks from the enemy. One of our favorites is “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus” set on repeat at low volume.)

Example 8: You may want the neighborhood you live in to be protected from crime and any other works of the enemy.

You: walking around your neighborhood, park, or landmark. Speaking out loud you say; this neighborhood, park, landmark, etc. is dedicated to the Lord Jesus that righteousness may abound. Any works or plans that the enemy may have for this place are destroyed in Jesus name, and this place is covered by the blood of Jesus.

Example 9: You are going on a trip and are staying at a Hotel.

This above statement may sound like an everyday situation as we travel often in our lives. However, when we go to a hotel, we don’t know who had the room before us. It could have been a witch, a homosexual couple, a serial killer, or perhaps it was just a normal person. The point is you just don’t know, and it’s better to use your authority in Jesus to bless and dedicate this room, so there is no spiritual residue left behind by the last guests.

You: I dedicate everything in this hotel room from wall to wall and floor to ceiling to the Lord Jesus. I proclaim the blood of Jesus covers everything in this room, and I am protected from all works of the enemy.

Example 10: Strange things are happening at your house, moving objects, unknown coldness.

This could be similar to example 9. When it comes to your home, you should bless whatever you might buy at the store, second-hand store, or garage sale because you don’t know who made these or owned those things before. You will want to dedicate your house and everything in it to the Lord Jesus.

You: Going to the rooms where these occurrences are happening. (Saying the following out loud) Any demonic spirit that has attached itself to any items in this house, you are rebuked in the name of Jesus, never to return. I dedicate everything in this house to the Lord Jesus. I proclaim the blood of Jesus covers everything in this house, and I am protected from all works of the enemy.

Example 11: You are intending to leave your home for work. You may use this in any situation that you leave your home, but it should become a part of your daily routine.

You can cover everything with the blood of Jesus and protect everything you have with angels.  You can also declare that all plans the enemy may have for you are all destroyed by the precious name of Jesus.

You: In the mighty name of Jesus, I cover myself, my house, my car, and my finances with the blood of Jesus. Any plans that the enemy has for me are all destroyed right now in the mighty name of Jesus. I declare in Jesus name that I am surrounded with Gods warring and protecting angels and nothing shall hurt me as I am protected in all situations.

Example 12: You have noticed signs of spiritual warfare manifesting around you in your daily life. This could be from people being nasty, rude, and blaspheming to people who are stealing from you whether it’s a coworker or neighbor. You may even have horrible dreams where demons attack you, and although you pray for protection demons seem to constantly attack you.

In all these instances, there is some form of demonic activity going on. If you’re not sure how to deal with these issues, then you will want to read some of our blog posts that show how the enemy operates. Furthermore, in these blogs, you will learn to use both prayers and spiritual authority in Jesus to deal with these issues, so they can stop happening.
