A Message To Those In The Church: Repent!

There are many in the church today that have fallen away from Jesus Christ as their first love and are living in a carnal state mentioned in 1 Corinthians 3:1-3. To live carnally is to live in the flesh and fulfil the desires thereof. There is wisdom from Galatians 5:16-17 about walking in the spirit and not the flesh that says:

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

When you came to Christ as your Lord and Savior you were instructed to grow in the knowledge of him as stated in 2 Peter 3:18. Growing in a relationship with Jesus takes time and effort. If we remain in a state of complacency, it becomes a place of danger as a Christian enters a state of being lukewarm mentioned Revelation 3:16 where Jesus says:

So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.”

Many in the church need to recognize that they are on a dangerous path and need to repent and turn back to Jesus as their first love while there is still time! The dangers are real for those who walk the path of carnality in the flesh, which we will go into more today.

Works of the Flesh and Being Led by the Spirit

In Galatians 5:16-17 we just saw how the flesh and the spirit are contrary of one another. Looking further we see the works of the flesh from Galatians 5:19-21:

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

When Christ died for us, he made us new creations in him, as it is no longer us who lives but Christ who lives within us as stated in Galatians 2:20. We have to remember if we live by the spirit we are not under the law, but produce good fruit that is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance against there is no law. (Galatians 5:19-21)

As Christians we should live for the Lord Jesus as it is stated in 2 Corinthians 5:15-17 that says:

And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

You Shall Know Them by Their Fruits

There are many in the body of Christ that claim to be his followers, but Jesus has told us you could recognize someone by their fruit described in Matthew 7:16-20 that says:

“Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”

This is a scary statement to what Jesus says about not bearing good fruit and being cast into the fire. We see this with John the Baptist who stated a similar warning from Luke 3:8-9 that says:

“Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.”

True repentance is making Christ your Lord and Savior and taking our commitment to him seriously to live righteously as it says in both 1 Peter 2:9 and Romans 12:1-2 that says:

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Jesus also points out to his followers in John 8:12 the simple truth that:

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

Repent Now and Come Back to Christ!

As the body of Christ there must be no compromise as time is short! We have to make a choice for Jesus when there is still time to do so! If you’re walking in the flesh in a carnal lifestyle, make the choice today to repent and come back to Christ for we always have his promise from 1 John 1:9 that says:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
